Big Bass Fishin

Big Bass Fishin is one of those games I opened expecting a five-minute distraction and ended up playing for an entire evening. The loop is simple: pick a spot, cast your line, wait for a bite, then time your reel-ins so you don't snap the line. It sounds basic on paper, but there's a real tactile pleasure to nailing a big catch after a tense back-and-forth.

Controls are the star here. Casting is a flick, reeling is a tap-and-hold, and reading the tension meter becomes second nature within a couple of sessions. Everything works one-handed, which is exactly what you want on a phone. I especially liked that the game never rushed me — you can sit and enjoy the water, then chase a rare fish when you feel like it.

Visually it's calm and bright, and it barely touched my battery over a long play session. If you turn off the ambient effects in settings you can stretch it even further. It's not a deep game, but it knows what it wants to be, and it does that very well.
