Emberfall Saga
Emberfall Saga is the mobile RPG I keep recommending to friends who think the genre is too grindy for phones. You gather a small party, work through a genuinely well-written story, and fight in turn-based battles that reward planning over reflexes. The writing has personality — characters bicker, change their minds, and occasionally surprise you.
Combat is where the design really shines on touch. You queue abilities with taps, and the interface stays readable even during hectic fights. There's an optional auto-battle for the easy encounters, which I appreciated when I just wanted to progress the plot on a short train ride.
My only complaint is the early progression feels a little slow, but push past the first couple of chapters and it opens up nicely. Battery use is moderate, and there's a low-power graphics mode that helps on longer sessions.
What we liked
- Strong writing and memorable characters
- Readable turn-based combat on touch
- Optional auto-battle for casual sessions
