Which mobile genres are actually kind to your battery
After testing dozens of games across genres, a clear pattern emerged: not all games are created equal when it comes to battery. If you commute or travel without a charger, the genre you pick matters more than the settings you tweak.
Puzzle, card, and cozy casual games are the gentle end of the spectrum. They tend to have static screens, minimal animation, and no heavy 3D rendering. I've played entire two-hour flights on a single genre like this and landed with plenty of charge left.
Racing and action games sit at the other extreme. Constant 3D rendering, particle effects, and high frame rates all demand power, and you'll feel your phone warming up. Most of them offer a reduced-effects mode buried in the settings — use it if you care about longevity.
My advice: check the settings menu the moment you install anything demanding. Cap the frame rate, dim the brightness, and disable background effects you won't miss. It won't turn a racer into a puzzle game, but it buys you meaningful extra minutes.
